Graham Gillot Band” is a highly enjoyable Contemporary Musical Extravaganza performed by some of South Africa's top musicians: Graham Gillot, Duncan Combe and Jeane Combe. By combining catchy original vocal songs with virtuosic instrumental music, this act is defining its own sound.
The band captures the attention of its audience from the first note to the last, with its impressive original songs and surprising variety of style changes.
Classic original rock songs (a mix in the style of John Mayer, U2, Foo Fighters, Goo Goo Dolls and Bon Jovi) with vocals to match, are accompanied by the exceptional talent of guitarist Graham Gillot together with outstanding support from the rhythm section played by Duncan Combe on bass and Jeane Combe on drums.

Since getting together over a jam session at a military base in June 2004, Taxi Violence have gone on to stake their rightful claim as one of South Africa’s most prized independent rock acts, rocking crowds, winning awards and gathering a legion of ardent followers wherever their music is heard. With an attitude towards their music that shuns conventional record industry practices (sign to a major label, release an ...album, break-up), the band have managed to singlehandedly, and independently, achieve in four some years what a lot of bands don’t achieve in a lifetime, whilst still retaining their artistic freedom and integrity......
From the get-go, everything about this hard working rock band that hails from Cape Town has been stamped with a sense of the unique. Not content to follow the herd and belt out the popular sound of the day, Taxi Violence chose the path less travelled, adopting retro rock ‘n roll/ Southern swamp blues as their medium of artistic expression.
When the front covers of South Africa’s daily entertainment newspapers throughout three different cities announced the arrival of “The next BIG things!” early on in 2006, it was with a sense of uncanny prophecy, for in the months that followed, Taxi Violence would, through sheer dedication and solid musicianship, rise from relative local obscurity to being a band in national demand.
From radio to television and in print, Taxi Violence are that band whose songs take up welcome residence in your mind for days on end. Raw, unprocessed guitar, driving bass, powerful drum beats and in-your-face, yet melodic vocal styles are the fundamental elements that define the sound of Taxi Violence.
Live, on stage is perhaps where the music of Taxi Violence is best experienced. Regardless of whether playing all acoustic on stage in a small club to a handful of fans or at full throttle in a stadium to thousands, Taxi Violence’s music is a tangible force that is as palpable as fine Southern bourbon, and as equally intoxicating. No music festival in their home country has dared not have them appear somewhere in the better part of their draw-card line-up.
In boldly ploughing an independent route Taxi Violence have been an inspiration to a lot of new bands that seek to follow in their footsteps.
Taxi Violence is inspired by bands that created, shaped, or otherwise influenced the sound of rock:
Queens of the Stone Age
Future Sound Of London
The Rolling Stones
Jimi Hendrix
Led Zeppelin
Sonic Youth
Radiohead
Pink Floyd
Brian Eno
The Orb
Muse
Sounds Like: Interpol, Muse, Queens Of The Stone Age, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Wolfmother, Audioslave, Incubus, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Sonic Youth, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, AC/DC, The Killers, Iggy Pop and the Stooges,…Taxi Violence!
Righto! Cover-charge is set at R30 p/p and they kick off at 9pm!See More
THE BATS
SOUTH AFRICA CAN BOAST MANY ACHIEVEMENTS OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS, AND ONE HAS TO BE THE RETURN OF A BAND THAT, EXACTLY 40 YEARS AFTER ITS INCEPTION, IS BACK ON THE ROAD AND STILL PULLING IN THE CROWDS. YES THE BATS ARE WELL AND TRULY BACK!!
IT ALL STARTED IN 1964 WHEN THE BATS, EDDIE ECKSTEIN, PAUL DITCHFIELD, PETE CLIFFORD AND THE LATE BARRY JARMAN, BURST ONTO THE LOCAL SCENE AND BECAME, TO MANY ARDENT FOLLOWERS, SOUTH AFRICA'S ANSWER TO THE BEATLES. THEY TOURED EXTENSIVELY, BOTH LOCALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY, WOWING AUDIENCES HERE AND IN THE UNITED KINGDOM, ZIMBABWE (THEN RHODESIA) AND GERMANY WITH THEIR BRILLIANT MUSIC AND HILARIOUS COMEDY SHOW. MORE THAN JUST GREAT MUSICIANS, THEY WERE ALSO GREAT ENTERTAINERS, AND IT WAS THIS THAT KEPT THEM AT THE TOP OF THEIR GAME FOR 16 YEARS, AN AMAZING ACHIEVEMENT FOR ANY BAND.
IN THE EARLY 70'S THEY WON A SARIE AWARD FOR 'SONG OF THE YEAR' WITH 'WHO'S THAT GIRL', AND IN 1972 PAUL'S COMPOSITION 'OH GOD IT'S BEAUTIFUL' WAS CHOSEN TO REPRESENT SOUTH AFRICA AT THE TOKYO WORLD SONG FESTIVAL. PAUL TOOK EDDIE WITH HIM TO TOKYO TO PERFORM THE SONG AND THEY REACHED THE FINALS.
IN 1980, WITH MANY HIT SINGLES, INCLUDING 'IN A SHABBY LITTLE HUT' AND 'VAT HOM DAWIE' AND A WHOLE BUNCH OF LONG PLAYING VINYLS UNDER THEIR BELTS, THEY DECIDED TO GO THEIR SEPARATE WAYS TO PURSUE SOLO CAREERS. THIS BREAK JUST SEEMED TO HONE THEIR TALENTS BECAUSE AFTER A BREAK OF 21 YEARS, THEY ARE BETTER MUSICIANS NOW THAN THEY WERE THEN!!
AFTER CONSTANT PRESSURE FROM THEIR FANS TO GET BACK TOGETHER AGAIN, EDDIE, PAUL & PETE, MINUS THE LATE BARRY WHO HAD DECIDED TO RETIRE, WERE JOINED BY DEREK GORDON AND GOT BACK ON THE ROAD FOR WHAT THEY THOUGHT WOULD BE A SHORT 'COME BACK'. LITTLE DID THEY KNOW THAT 3 YEARS LATER THEY WOULD STILL BE ON THE ROAD, DELIGHTING AUDIENCES YOUNG AND OLD, AND RELEASING A BRAND NEW C.D.
THIS PRODUCTION BY DENNIS EAST AND ENGINEER, KEITH FORSYTH, IS THEIR FIRST MAJOR STUDIO PRODUCTION IN 25 YEARS! DUE TO THE VERSATILITY OF THE BATS, AND BECAUSE THEY ARE PREDOMINANTLY A PERFORMANCE BAND, THEY DECIDED TO SPECIFICALLY AIM THIS C.D. AT THE RETAIL MARKET. THEY HAVE INCLUDED SOME FAVOURITE SONGS THEY HAVE PERFORMED OVER THE YEARS SUCH AS MANFRED MANN'S 'THE MIGHTY QUINN', SOME GREAT NEW ORIGINALS LIKE THE CATCHY 'CHEEKY FACE' AND BECAUSE THEY WERE ONE OF THE FIRST BANDS TO WRITE AFRIKAANS POP SONGS THEY HAD TO INCLUDE 'BEZ VALLEY BREEKER' AND 'HOENDER JIVE'.
SO, IF THE LIVE PERFORMANCE C.D. SALES ARE ANYTHING TO GO BY, THE BATS ARE CERTAINLY RIGHT ON TRACK.
LET'S CELEBRATE THE BATS, A GREAT SOUTH AFRICAN PRODUCT! WHO WOULD NOT BE PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN HEARING THIS!!
