We have been rather quiet on line lately for which we do apologize. Be assured Operation Teddy Bear Care is still active though in a much quieter way. We are all dealing with troubled times and funds are very low. We have spent much time encouraging people to do an act of kindness to strangers to get themselves out of the doldrums. Naturally we are still collecting teddy bears to give to the needy children and promoting operation teddy bear care at every chance we get. Recently we had a stall at the Strawberry festival in George. Not a huge success financially but much interest shown by the public.
Out of love and kindness, 2 ladies from Cape Town area, have together knitted and put together 40+teddy bears to give to our needy little ones. One of the ladies, though suffering from arthritis in her hands does the knitting and the other lady puts them together. These teddy bears just ooze love (See photo), and will surely bring much comfort and joy to a hurting child. Owner of Teddy Bear haven gave us a wonderful donation of material for making teddy bears. Another wonderful gift came from a teddy bear collector in the USA. This kind-hearted, loving lady sent us her collection of teddy bears, some given to her by her grandfather. With so much kindness, love and giving coming our way we are encouraged more and more daily to continue doing what we can to ease the suffering of innocent children.
We have many people to thank – our knitters, those that give donations and the helpful people who are always willing to transport parcels from Cape Town to Sedgefield at no charge to us.
Sadly due to lack of funds we have had to close our Teddy Bear Charity shop. Hopefully this will just be short term. In the meantime we will find other means of bringing in some income.
We would like to remind all that we do not often place photos of the children receiving teddy bears and other help. This is to protect the identity of the children and their families from any stigma that may be attached to them in future times.
Thank you all for you continued support. Without your help and generosity we would not be able to bring a little bit of cheer to hurting children. Watch out for our end of the year news and all our happenings in our next news update.

2011 is well on its way. January has passed. Looking back over the past two years we realise, despite the world economy recession, we have achieved much.
Sadly, due to lack of funds, we were unable to give the children their annual Christmas dinner. However, thanks to the generosity of donations in cash and kind from our supporters, we handed out 200plus teddy bears at the local clinic. That is smiles from 200plus little ones! Our very special thanks go to our senior citizens who lovingly gave their time in knitting teddy bears for us, also to our trainees for making teddy bears.
We are very proud of our trainees, not only are they keeping us supplied with teddy bears but they are now earning money for themselves. Remember all our trainees are unskilled/unemployed persons. Many of them have gone on to running their own little business from home.
During this difficult financial period many people lost their homes and their employment. We have managed to find places for them to stay and have helped put food on their table. With encouragement and hard work many of them are back on their feet again.
We are putting much effort in encouraging people in doing acts of kindness. No matter how little you have there is always enough to reach out a helping hand to someone less fortunate. The poet Wordsworth’s words carry a strong message :-
"The best portion of a good man's life is his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love." -- William Wordsworth

These past two years have been very difficult for many. Not only have business’ had to close doors but many charities fell by the wayside as well. We are extremely grateful for having achieved what we have. During this period we have given out 2000plus teddy bears to the children, we have managed to keep our charity shop open, continued with our training program, all the while encouraging others to practice acts of kindness. None of this would have been possible without the sheer determination of our founder, Maureen, and all those willing hearts and hands offering hope, encouragement and help where needed.
Stay Positive and may 2011 bring peace and joy to all.

This is too good not to share!

A mature lady went grocery shopping at her local Spar. As so often happens she had left her shopping bag at home. This shouldn’t be a problem as for 20c you are able to purchase a plastic carrier bag. Not this lady! No ways was she going to pay 20c for a plastic packet. As she staggered out with her load many kind people offered to help her to which she politely replied “No thanks, I can manage,” and on she staggered. Then it happened! Another kind soul offered to buy her a plastic packet. Now was her chance to make her statement. “It is not the 20c I object to, it is the fact that it is plastic! If we all refused to buy a packet we would all be doing our bit to save our environment!” Makes one think, doesn’t it?
Now we come to the tale of the Tickle Stick.
An energetic lady walked into her living room and was horrified at seeing it invaded by intruders. No way are these intruders going to get the better of her. She rushed to her special cupboard and grabbed her tickle stick. With great gusto she set about banishing the intruders – this way ,that way and every other way. In a matter of minutes, with great satisfaction, she realized her furniture, shelves and corners were once more dust and cobweb free, thanks to her tickle stick!
Now I have never thought of a feather duster as a tickle stick. How much more fun it is to think of tickling away dust and cobwebs then the boring thought of just dusting! Sure makes housework just that much more fun! I wonder if dishwashing liquid would make washing dishes more fun if we called it “Sudsy”?
Have a fun filled day!

Being Host Country to 2010 Soccer World Cup is something to really be very proud of. The Children, I am sure are overjoyed at having extra long Winter break,(not too sure how the parents feel about this). This is great for some children but despair, hunger and deprivation to many of the vulnerable children

living in the area. These little ones only receive one meal a day during school Term, which means they are facing six weeks of no food.We are appealing to Hotels, Restaurants, Food Shops, in fact anyone who is willing to help to please give us your out of date stock and waste food, we can then give as many as these children at least one meal a week if not everyday. In the short period we have been around we have come to realize there are many kind, generous caring people around. Please do not walk away without giving a thought to a child going to bed hungry night ofter night. We are also appealing for warm winter clothes for the children. We are willing to collect or you arev welcome to drop it off at our shop at Island Market,we are open daily.

SOME OF OUR RECENT ACTIVITIES
Many people in our area do not have electricity nor running water and rely totally on rain for water.
Not having transport or means of pumping water to their tanks. We have taken on the task of collecting water and filling their tanks. Using generator and a pump. This has kept us busy. It just comes to prove how we have grown, it not just giving Teddy bears it is caring for others.
We also celebrated another birthday party for one of our children.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY FUND RAISING FUNCTION
We are having Christmas in July at Pinenella Resturant . Where we will be dining and dancing and having Santa Claus coming to town. So you better watch out.
Sandra and Jeff have come aboard our team. Thank goodness for Sandra, our PRO lady. She sure keeps us on our toes. Sandra has been awesome, handing out posters, really giving us all her support wherever needed.
Jeff, our hero, has come done wonders in giving our shop a wonderful face lift. He has added cupboards, for our display , and is still busy doing other alterations for us. Jeff, we ladies would be lost with out you and really appreciate all you are doing.

In Closing we wish to thank the Segefield Businwess Boerewors Bash for their tremendous generosity in choosing us as Charity of the month For May 2010.
