Pink Drive Breast Cancer Awareness takes Sedgefield and Knysna by storm

According to Knysna Tourism CEO Shaun van Eck, the Pink Drive’s mammogram truck will be in the Knysna/Sedgefield area from 6 – 15 July, offering mammograms at the reduced rate of R650.

“Sedgefield Tourism is taking it one step further and on 10 and 11 July the Pink Drive Educational Truck will be giving free breast education and breast-checks at our local clinic in Sedgefield, reaching out to as many women as we can,” said van Eck.

Sedgefield Office Manager Rose Bilbrough said that once women have undergone their breast-check, the trained nursing sisters sometimes find a potential problem that needs immediate attention. “A lot of women in our community cannot afford a mammogram and therefore we are raising funds for them, to give them the opportunity to have peace of mind or immediate attention. This outreach is of vital importance to many women who have been misinformed and are scared to broach the subject.”

“To raise funds for this fantastic cause, a 4 ball better ball (2 scores to count) golf day will be held at the Black Waters Mashie Course on 21 July 2012 with tee off times at 9am and 10:30am,” said Bilbrough. “The entry fee of R120 per person includes nine holes and a light lunch. Holes may also be bought at R150 (own branding must be provided). Pili Pili Beach Bar is also hosting a ‘Cleavage Evening’ on 6 July, filled with fun and prizes.”

“And although the Pink Drive team will be busy delivering these great services in Sedgefield and surrounds, you can also catch them at the Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival,” Bilbrough concluded.

The Pink Drive aims to provide affordable, convenient mammography services to women in the private and corporate sectors and to provide free scanning and education to disadvantaged communities via local clinics, community health centres and specified hospitals with no oncology facilities.
